Susan Howard

Board Member at The Avalon Group (APS)

Susan maintains strong ties with her family and friends in Wigan and I’m a keen Rugby League fan. Whilst studying at university she became involved in charities and voluntary work with people with disabilities. These early experiences have led to a lifelong commitment to supporting those who can be marginalized. Before joining the prison service in 1999, Susan worked in a variety of roles within the voluntary sector and held posts in Youth Work and the Church of England.

Susan has Governed six prisons in the UK and in 2019 she was promoted to the role of Deputy Director in the Ministry of Justice. Her current responsibilities are to manage six prisons across the South of the country.

As an Executive Coach, Susan is passionately interested in personal and professional development for individuals and teams in the world of work. She promotes the diverse needs of individuals in her approach to her responsibilities.
