Maria Cristina Cardenas

Maria Cristina Cardenas is a seasoned professional in environmental policy and strategy, currently serving as the Senior Policy and Strategy Advisor at the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention Secretariat since September 2016. Prior to this role, Cardenas held senior positions including Chief and Acting Chief of the Technical Assistance Branch at the same Secretariat from February 2012 to September 2016. Cardenas has extensive experience as a Policy Advisor at UNEP, specifically within the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention, from October 2001 to January 2012. Cardenas's career began in the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where responsibilities included advising on environmental matters from August 1993 to August 2001.
