Margaret M. Schmitt

HR Executive Manager at The Berkley Group, Inc.

Margaret brings over 30 years of public service to the Berkley Group. She served as the Human Resources Director for the City of Lynchburg, Virginia from May of 1999 until her retirement in November of 2016. Prior to her work in Lynchburg, Margaret served the City of Hampton for 12 years, progressing through HR professional roles to achieve the Sr. Human Resources Manager position. Work with the US Army in the Republic of Korea and various non-profits round out her experience.

Margaret holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from St. Leo College and a Master’s in Public Administration from George Washington University. She completed the Advanced Facilitation certification course at UNC-Chapel Hill and holds SPHR, SHRM-SCP and IPMA-SCP certifications. Margaret currently serves as the Western Region representative on the IPMA-HR, VA Chapter Board of Directors and is sought out as an effective facilitator, presenter and trainer. In addition to her professional work, Margaret actively supports the community through volunteer work and by serving on non-profit boards.
