Michelle Fernández has worked in various roles across a range of industries since 2012. In 2012, they worked as a Fellow for Organizing for America, where they planned community events in Florida with a focus on mobilizing Latinx voters for the 2012 Obama Presidential campaign. Michelle also worked as a Communications & Research Associate for Valpo Surf Project, where they developed a sustainable capacity model, evaluated program impact, and improved existing educational curriculum. In 2013, they became Development, Marketing, & Communications Manager for La Cocina, working with C-level executives at companies such as Airbnb, Google, Square, JP Morgan Chase & Co., and Levi Strauss & Co. In 2015, they worked as an Independent Marketing, Sales, and Communications Consultant, creating the voice guidelines, DNA branding, and marketing content and campaigns for Nueva Cocina, a pan-Latin food brand owned by Clorox. Michelle also worked as Head of Content for Watsi, creating marketing campaigns and strategies to grow the donor base. In 2016, they worked as Team Lead for TEDx San Francisco and as an Independent Marketing, Sales, and Communications Consultant. From 2017 to 2019, they worked for Pop-Up Magazine Productions, first as Brand Partnerships Manager and then as Brand Partnerships Director. In 2018, they became Head of Partnerships for Curious Fictions, working with the Big 5 publishers to develop joint marketing campaigns around authors on the platform.

Michelle Fernández attended Amherst College from 2007-2011, where they obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Michelle'story and Spanish. In 2010, they attended the University of Buenos Aires for a course in Human Rights. In 2017, they obtained a Financial Accounting certification from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania through a Coursera Course Certificate.
