Richard Elder

Richard Elder is a seasoned executive with extensive experience in strategic management and transformation across various sectors. Currently serving as Managing Director and Partner at The Carlyle Group since July 2022, Richard previously held the position of EVP and Chief Transformation Officer at Nouryon from July 2019 to July 2022. Prior to that, Richard was a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company for 25 years, focusing on Advanced Industries and Defense & Security practices, where leadership involved partnering with public sector defense organizations and capital-intensive industrial firms to implement significant transformations. Richard began his career in the U.S. Air Force as Program and Technical Manager in Optics from 1989 to 1992. Richard holds an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
