Mark Pankhurst has over 32 years of experience in the fire service industry. Mark served as the Fire Chief and Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Kawartha Lakes from 2011 to 2021. During their time there, they demonstrated a relaxed, engaging, and collaborative approach in dealing with all stakeholders and was responsible for providing accountable public services. Additionally, they were appointed as the Regional Fire Coordinator by the Fire Marshal and Chief, Emergency Management Ontario. In 2021, they worked as the District Chief (Acting) for Algonquin Highlands Fire Services, where they provided leadership and supervision to crews and responded to emergencies. Mark then joined the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs in 2022 as a Fire Services Liaison, where they developed, promoted, supported, and evaluated programs and services. Currently, Mark Pankhurst is employed as the Deputy Fire Chief for The Corporation of the Town of Ajax.

Mark Pankhurst has obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Studies Major from Trent University. Mark also completed an Advanced Certificate in the Public Administration and Governance Program at The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education at Toronto Metropolitan University. In addition, they hold a diploma in the Company Officer Diploma Program from the Ontario Fire College and an Advanced Certificate in the Apprenticeship Program from Centennial College.

Furthermore, Mark has acquired various certifications including 310S Automotive Service Technician and 310T Truck and Coach Technician from the Ontario College of Trades. Mark is also a Certified Municipal Manager (CMM III) from the Ontario Municipal Management Institute and an Emergency Management Coordinator certified by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Ontario.

In terms of fire-related certifications, Mark has earned Fire Inspector I, Fire Officer II, Fire Service Instructor II, Fire and Life Safety Educator I, and Firefighter II certifications from the National Fire Protection Association. Mark is also certified as a Public Information Officer by the same institution.
