Zyma Islam is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in reporting and data journalism. Since May 2013, Zyma has been with The Daily Star, initially as a reporter and advancing to the role of senior reporter, focusing on issues such as corruption, environmental disasters, and climate change. Zyma contributed as a Magic Grantee at The Brown Institute for Media Innovation at Columbia University, working on a health sector data journalism project. An internship at NPR involved supporting investigative reporters with data analysis, while graduate studies at Columbia University featured a project on homelessness in New York City. Zyma's early career included a research assistant position that investigated the role of Twitter in activism in Bangladesh and an internship assessing maternal and child health in rural areas. Zyma holds a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies (cum laude hons.) from the Asian University for Women.
