Chief Whiting currently serves as Fire Chief for Pleasant Township, Ohio. Previously, Whiting served over 38 years in the fire and emergency services field. In 1987 he started with the Columbus Division of Fire Columbus Fire and served in numerous assignments including emergency operations, special operations chief, safety chief, public information officer, administration and his last assignment as the Chief Fire Marshal.
Chief Whiting currently serves as a contract instructor for the National Fire Academy in leadership, safety and community risk reduction programs. In addition, he instructs ICS and position specific courses for FEMA and the State of Ohio. He maintains a top-secret clearance from the FBI and Homeland security and sits on the State Emergency Response Commission appointed by Governor DeWine for the State of Ohio. Besides these positions he has served on NFPA committees and numerous committees in the Columbus Metropolitan Area. His passion has and continues to be working and advocating for improving the tools, training and resources for the first responder community.
