Stephen Brotebeck

Interim Artistic Director at Diversionary Theatre

Stephen Brotebeck has a diverse work experience in the theater and performing arts industry. Stephen currently serves as the Interim Artistic Director at Diversionary Theatre since June 2023. Prior to that, Brotebeck was associated with San Diego State University, where they held multiple roles including Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Associate Professor of Musical Theatre. Stephen also worked as an Artistic Director at Okoboji Summer Theatre from September 2017 to June 2023. Brotebeck has taken on various leadership positions such as Artistic Director at Broadway Bodies from June 2008 to June 2020 and Program Director at US Performing Arts, where they were responsible for the administrative and artistic aspects of the camps. Stephen has also been involved in choreography and directing, including work as a Movement Associate for Peter and The Starcatcher - Broadway in 2012 and as a Directing Intern for Ghost The Musical in 2012. Brotebeck has additionally worked as a Graduate Fellow, Guest Teacher, and Instructor at The Pennsylvania State University. Throughout their career, they have showcased their choreography skills, including a debut at the Ailey Citigroup Theater in 2008. Brotebeck's work experience highlights their passion and dedication to the performing arts industry.

Stephen Brotebeck obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Music Theatre Performance from Western Michigan University, where they studied from 1996 to 2000. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree in Directing (Musical Theatre) at Penn State University from 2009 to 2012.
