Travis Smith has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Travis currently serves as the Senior Project Manager at The Drone Racing League since April 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Software Product Manager at AMEWAS, Inc. from November 2016 to April 2022. Travis also gained valuable experience through an Operations and Marketing Internship at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in January and February 2019.

Before transitioning to the private sector, Travis served in the US Navy, where they held multiple positions including Instructor Pilot, Carrier Qualification (CQ) Program Manager, Standardization Officer, and F/A-18 Pilot at various points from 2009 to 2016. Travis initially joined the Navy as a Navy Officer Candidate and Student Naval Aviator from May 2006 to December 2008.

Travis started their professional career as a Structural Engineer at Northrop Grumman Corporation from May 2005 to May 2006, working on the Dynamic Design Analysis Method (DDAM) for aircraft carrier structural design. Travis also had an internship as a Research and Development Engineer at Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) from May 2004 to September 2004, where they worked on the aerodynamic analysis of unmanned glider design. Prior to that, they were a Naval Architect Engineering Intern at Martin & Ottaway from May 2002 to December 2003, assisting engineers and generating reports for clients.

Travis Smith obtained a Bachelor of Science - BS degree in Ocean & Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech, which they attended from 2000 to 2005. Following this, they pursued a Master of Legal Studies degree in Sports Law and Business at Arizona State University from 2018 to 2020. In addition to their educational accomplishments, Travis also obtained certifications as a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) from the Scrum Alliance in September 2021 and as a Commercial Aircraft Pilot from the Federal Aviation Administration in December 2008.
