Sofia Baucom

Director, Family Engagement at East Coast Migrant Head Start Project

Sofía V. Baucom, MALS, is the Director of Family Engagement reporting directly to the Chief Innovation Officer. Sofía oversees and assists in establishing meaningful connections between families and their communities. Additionally, she has a hands-on role in the development of innovative practices in family literacy and other related services. In her 19 years as a part of the ECMHSP family, Sofía’s focus has always been to uplift the voices of farm-worker families, and to support personal and professional development outside the family’s participation in the program. To strengthen and extend the reach of her work, Sofía serves on the NC Home Visiting and Parent Education System Board, the National Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Association Board, the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health, Prevent Blindness Advisory Committee, and the NC Family Engagement & Leadership Coalition Workgroup. In her experience, Sofía has spent nearly a decade working in South America's indigenous communities and worked on building collaborative partnerships between community leaders and corresponding government officials to drive forward social initiatives benefiting under-served families in Perú and Bolivia.
