Ying Zhang

Research Analyst, China at EIU

Ying Zhang is a research analyst covering China as well as its regions through EIU’s Access China service. She joined the EIU in 2021 and conducts research on China’s economic trends, regional economy, and the consumer and property markets.

Ying has expertise in Chinese statistics and data. She joined EIU from The Economist newspaper where she was a data researcher, focusing on analysing China’s economic, financial and company data and working closely with journalists in data visualisation. Prior to that, she worked as an M&A analyst at a Chinese retail firm.

Ying holds a Master’s in economics for development from the University of Oxford, where she specialised in the economic and social development of China, and a Bachelor’s in Economics from Essex University. She has also contributed to development projects led by Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative and United Nations ESCAP.
