Sebastian Scotney

Sebastian Scotney is an accomplished music writer and editor with extensive experience in the jazz domain. Currently serving as a Music Writer for The Economist since June 2022, Sebastian contributes to various platforms including the online publication, Intelligence podcast, and Espresso. Additionally, Sebastian has been Editor of UK Jazz News and LondonJazz News since 2009, and is recognized for authoring The London Column in Jazzthetik. In past roles, Sebastian offered insights as a feature contributor to BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Line-Up and wrote for Arts Industry magazine and the Telegraph Media Group. A dedicated coach at London Welsh RFC for over three decades, Sebastian's contributions to the jazz community were acknowledged with a 2015 Jazz Media Award from the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Academic credentials include an MA in German Studies from Birkbeck, University of London, and an MA in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford.
