Anne Heggen

Senior Director, Reaching The Last Mile Fund at The END Fund

Anne Heggen has a diverse work experience in the field of public health and international development. Anne'smost recent role was as a Program Director for the Reaching the Last Mile Fund at The END Fund, starting in March 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Public Health Consultant, providing subject matter expertise and guidance for NTD elimination programs, and successfully executing innovation projects in Africa. Anne also supported the evaluation of the implementation of the Ministry of Health - Ethiopia Second National NTD Master Plan.

From 2017 to 2020, Anne held the role of Senior Trachoma Advisor at the Fred Hollows Foundation, where they led trachoma elimination programs and provided strategic advice. Before that, they worked as a Public Health Consultant (Contractor) from 2012 to 2017, contributing their expertise and guidance to NTD control and elimination programs in 12 countries. During this time, they ensured clear communication of Trachoma action plans and co-authored the ICTC Trachoma Mass Drug Administration (MDA) Toolkit.

Anne's career in public health began in 2006 when they worked as a Logistician/Procurement Officer for The Carter Center, where they led the transition of the organization's operations into South Sudan and managed program operations. Anne also served as a Graduate Student Instructor and Graduate Instructor Assistant at the University of Michigan from 2007 to 2008.

Anne's earlier experiences include working as a Behavior Change Communications Consultant for The Carter Center, developing radio campaigns for disease control programs, and as a Refugee Youth Services Coordinator at Refugee Family Services, managing after-school programs and summer camps for refugee youth. Anne has also interned at The Carter Center, conducting formative research on media access and preferences for disease control campaigns.

Anne Heggen attended Iowa State University where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology, General. Anne then went on to pursue their Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan.
