Melanie Camilleri

Seconded National Expert at The European Food Safety Authority

Melanie Camilleri currently serves as a Seconded National Expert at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) since December 2021. Prior to this role, Melanie worked as a Scientific Officer at the Plant Protection Directorate in Malta, where responsibilities included conducting phytosanitary inspections, sampling for the EU Pest Survey program, and overseeing import checks and inspections at garden centers and nurseries. Melanie's experience includes a traineeship at EFSA's ALPHA Unit, where contributions were made to develop a toolkit for pest surveys. Additional roles include Quality Control Analyst at Siegfried Generics and a student placement as a Laboratory Analyst at the Plant Health Directorate. Academic qualifications consist of a Master of Science in Sustainability and Environmental Management from the University of Derby and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Malta.
