Maki Kasai

Maki Kasai is an experienced educator with a Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Biology/Limnology from UC Santa Barbara. Currently serving as the Lead Science Teacher for Oakland Unified School District since August 2014, Maki designs NGSS-aligned curricula and provides mentorship to fellow teachers. Maki also works as a Mentor Teacher at the Exploratorium, guiding new teachers through their initial years in the classroom. Previous experience includes roles as a Science Content Writer at Tribal Planet, Inc., where Maki developed engaging content for a Citizen Science iPhone app, and teaching positions in various school districts, focusing on innovative, project-based learning strategies. Maki's career began in the airline industry as an International Flight Attendant with United Airlines before transitioning to education.
