Maeva Gauthier

Maeva Gauthier has a diverse work experience that spans various fields such as communications, research, education, and environmental conservation. Maeva currently works as a Communications Coordinator and Research Assistant at the UNESCO Chair in Community-based Research & Social Responsibility in higher education. In this role, they support the UNESCO Co-chairs in activities related to knowledge democracy and the decolonization of knowledge.

Prior to this, Maeva worked as a Co-Investigator and Research Assistant at the University of Saskatchewan, where they contributed to a project focused on exploring climate change and youth voices in northern communities. Maeva also co-founded and served as the Chief Development Officer at Live It Earth, an organization that provides online educational content for children about the natural world.

Maeva Gauthier's education history includes a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biology with an Ecology option from UQAM | Université du Québec à Montréal, completed from 2004 to 2007. Maeva then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Marine Ecology from the University of Victoria from 2007 to 2012. In 2015, they obtained a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Education and Communication from Royal Roads University. Maeva continued their education at the University of Victoria, where they completed a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Geography, with a focus on marine ecology. Maeva also undertook Continuing Studies in Geography at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2012. Later, from 2019 to 2021, Maeva pursued an Apprentissage et enseignement en enseignement supérieur (LATHE) degree from the Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies at the University of Victoria. Additionally, they have obtained certifications in "Learning New Perspectives and Methodologies in Community-engaged Scholarship" from CIFAL Victoria in 2023, "Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT) for marine temperate environments" from EnviroEmerg Consulting in 2013, and "Podcasting" from the University of Victoria Libraries - Digital Scholarship Commons. Maeva also holds a PADI Open Water certification in dry suit diving.
