Sam Chapman

Senior Vice President of Innovation, Co-Founder at The Floow

Sam Chapman has a strong background in innovation and technology. Sam co-founded The Floow Limited in 2012 and held roles as Senior Vice President of Innovation and Co-Founder, as well as Chief Technology Officer from 2012 to 2014. During their time at The Floow, they led the innovation team and conducted research programs related to driving behavior and safety.

In addition to their work at The Floow, Sam has held various positions in other organizations. Sam served as a Freeman and Council member of The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire since 2015, contributing to the growth and representation of excellence in the digital sector.

Sam also founded Knowledge Now Limited (K-Now) in 2008 as a spin-off company from the University of Sheffield, where they worked as CEO and later as a non-executive director. K-Now focused on commercializing state-of-the-art research for large-scale complex knowledge management in industries such as aerospace, retail, scientific research, and emergency response. Sam successfully traded at K-Now until 2018.

Before founding K-Now, Sam worked as an external researcher at the University of Sheffield in 2009, managing multinational research and development projects for academic and industrial clients. Sam also served as a Research Associate at the University from 2003 to 2008, focusing on data handling projects funded by organizations such as the EU, Rolls Royce, Kodak, JISC, and TSB.

Their early career includes a role as a Programmer at Infogrames from 2000 to 2003. These experiences have provided Sam with a diverse skill set and extensive knowledge in innovation, technology, and knowledge management.

Sam Chapman has a strong education background in engineering and digital sectors. They received an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering from The University of Sheffield in 2022 for their impact and support in the digital sector. Prior to this, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the same university between 2002 and 2007, specializing in Large Scale Information Integration for knowledge Integration. Before pursuing their PhD, Sam completed a Master of Research (M.Res Hons) in Physically based Modelling and Human Body Forensics from The University of Sheffield in 1999-2000. Their undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Software Engineering, was also earned from The University of Sheffield during the period of 1996-1999.
