Job description

The Talent Lead at The Free Press is responsible for creating and implementing processes, systems, and strategies for recruiting, developing, and managing talent in a fast-growing environment. This role is crucial to building and maintaining a high-performing and engaged team, contributing to the overall success and growth of our organization. The Talent Lead will be responsible for overseeing the entire talent life cycle of our full-time and non-full-time staff and play a key role in shaping and defining our workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end recruitment process, including creating and posting job descriptions, sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions.
  • Develop and implement effective onboarding processes to ensure new hires integrate smoothly into the organization.
  • Manage employment contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct industry research to deliver insights on competitive benchmarking for compensation, benefits, and best practices.
  • Recommend, implement, and manage best-in-class software vendors for talent and benefit management.
  • Collaborate with the finance department to oversee accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Design and implement performance review processes to assess individual and team contributions.
  • Streamline and improve talent management processes, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
  • Implement initiatives to support continuous learning and development for employees.
  • Work closely with the executive team to determine future hiring needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in leadership role in talent management, recruiting, and HR processes, preferably in a media, publishing, and/or journalism environment.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; a champion of culture.
  • Ability to build organizational processes and standards for a high-performance culture.
  • An embrace of a scrappy start-up environment with a willingness to jump in wherever needed to help the team succeed.
