Rachel Smith began their work experience in 2008 as an Assessor at The Tutorial Foundation. Rachel then worked as a Mentor at the University of Birmingham from 2011 to 2012. In 2012, they interned as a Major Donor Intern at the British Red Cross. From 2013 to 2014, they held various fundraising roles at SANE, starting as a Fundraising Assistant and progressing to Senior Fundraiser. In 2013, they also briefly worked as a Membership Officer at ACEVO. Rachel then worked as a Trusts and Foundations Senior Officer at Breast Cancer Haven from 2015 to 2016. From 2016 to 2018, they worked at Redthread, first as a Fundraising Manager and then as Head of Fundraising. In 2022, they became a Board Trustee at Settle, and in 2023, they became the Head of Strategic Partnerships at The Freedom Fund, where they currently hold the role.
Rachel Smith completed the MCIOF(Dip), a diploma in fundraising from the Institute of Fundraising Academy in 2019. Prior to this, they attended the University of Birmingham, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Modern Languages. Rachel's education history also includes attending Newstead Wood School, although specific information about their degree or field of study is not provided.
