Luciano Johnson is the Associate Chief Librarian, Preservation, Imaging, & Creative Services at The Frick Collection. Luciano has been with the company since November 2006 and in their current position since September 2012.
Johnson has extensive experience in digital projects management and has trained staff in workflow procedures. Luciano has also supervised project staff in day-to-day activities, managed the storage, metadata, preservation and quality control of all digital assets, and provided leadership in technical planning, implementation, management and support of digital collections.
In addition, Johnson has established workflows and standards for digital imaging projects, managed and customized the Xinet digital asset management system, and supervised quality control of digital capture and derivative production. Luciano has also applied current standards for knowledge database design, metadata development and scanning technologies.
Johnson has also researched, recommended and budgeted software and hardware upgrades for the digital lab, collaborated with collections managers to identify existing content within the library for digitization, provided visual resource research assistance to readers and staff as needed, and provided technical support for Mac OSX machines, server, scanning equipment and printers.
In their role as primary technical liason for outsourced projects and off-site consultants, Johnson has assisted in writing grants to support the library's digital initiatives and served as library representative at seminars, conferences, and consortia on digital initiatives.
Johnson has a Full Stack Web Development Certification from freeCodeCamp, a MLIS from Pratt Institute, and a Master's in American Literature and Critical Theory from Rutgers-Newark. They also have a BA in English and Acting from Marymount Manhattan College. Finally, they have certification from O'Reilly School of Technology in Linux Systems Administration: Services and from Apple in Apple Certified Technical Coordinator.
Their manager is Stephen Bury, Andrew W. Mellon Chief Librarian. They are on a team with Anastasia Levadas - Associate Chief Librarian, Content, Sally Brazil - Associate Chief Librarian, Archives and Records, and Suz Massen - Associate Chief Librarian, Access.
