Colleen Clayton has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Colleen started their career in 1990 as a Head Lifeguard for the Borough of Pine Beach. Colleen then worked as a Substitute Teacher for Toms River Regional Schools and Donovan Catholic H.S. from 1994 to 1997. In 1995, they also served as a Substitute Teacher for Manchester Township School District.
From 1996 to 1997, Colleen worked as the Kinder Kids Child Care Director at Brick Township Police Athletic League. Colleen later became a Teacher of English at Manchester Township Board of Education from 1998 to 1999.
In 1993, Colleen joined the Ocean County YMCA as the Senior Administrative Director, holding the position until 2009. During that time, they served as the Chief Membership and Development Officer for The Gateway Family YMCA starting from September 2009.
Colleen also contributed to Georgian Court University as a Member of the Alumni Board of Directors from 2007 to 2009.

Colleen Clayton's education history includes a variety of degrees and certifications. Colleen obtained a High School Diploma from Toms River High School South in 1991. Colleen then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature from Stockton University, graduating in 1995. During the same time, they also attended Brookdale Community College in 1995, where they studied Education. Additionally, they attended Ocean County College from 1994 to 1995, focusing on Education.
In terms of higher education, Colleen Clayton pursued a Master of Arts degree in Education from Georgian Court University, completing their studies between 1995 and 2004.
Alongside their formal education, they obtained several certifications. These include a Certificate in Digital Marketing & Fundraising from Nonprofit Tech for Good in January 2021. Prior to that, they earned various workshop facilitator certifications from the YMCA of the USA (National Resource Office), such as "The Y and You: New Employee Orientation: Workshop Facilitator Certification" in September 2019, "I Hear You: Service with CARE Workshop Facilitator Certification" in June 2019, "Leader Certification" in June 2019, "Orientation to Diversity, Inclusion & Global Workshop Facilitator Certification" in June 2019, "The Y's Way to Service & Engagement Workshop Facilitator Certification" in June 2019, and "Living Our Cause for Frontline Leaders Workshop Facilitator Certification" in February 2019. Colleen also obtained the "Expert Plus" certification from Royal Caribbean International and "NCL Freestyle Certified Agent" certification from Norwegian Cruise Line in April 2016. Earlier in their career, they earned the "Listen First Institute (Workshop Trainer Certification)" in July 2008.
Outside of the YMCA certifications, Colleen Clayton achieved the following certifications: "American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate" from the American Red Cross in June 2008 and 1990, as well as "YMCA Lifeguard" certification from the YMCA of the USA (National Resource Office) in May 1994. Colleen also holds "Elementary School Teacher - Letter of Eligibility with Advanced Standing" and "Teacher Of English - Letter of Eligibility With Advanced Standing" certifications from the State of New Jersey, both obtained in June 1996. Lastly, they obtained "Director," "Professional Director," and "Organizational Leader" certifications from the YMCA of the USA and a "Social Media Certified" certification from HubSpot Academy in September 2019.

The Gateway Family YMCA (Formerly YMCA of Eastern Union County) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, health and community service organization of caring staff and volunteers who are dedicated to providing quality services to people of all ages, races, faiths or incomes. The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children of all ages and from all walks of life joined together by a shared passion: to strengthen the foundations of community. FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT – Nurturing the potential of every child and teen through child care, afterschool child care, day camp, sports, arts, learn to swim, teen and health and well-being classes. FOR HEALTHY LIVING – Improving the nation’s health and well-being with programs and membership for youth, teens, adults, seniors and families. Programs include: yoga, zumba, volleyball, basketball, tae kwon do, arthritis, dance, health assessments, personal training, diabetes prevention, swimming and adult and child learn to swim. FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – Giving back and providing support for our neighbors. The Y has supportive housing for individuals and families, Adult Day Care, Financial Assistance along with community engagement.
