Jonathan Hornstein

Jon joined The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation in 2017 and focuses on the Foundation’s grantmaking in Israel and the Jewish Community. In this capacity, Jon develops and executes the strategy for the Foundation’s Israel grants portfolio, which provides $10-15 million annually to Israeli nonprofits focused on Aging in Community, employment training programs leading to economic independence, and women at risk. In addition, Jon has spearheaded several large-scale initiatives focused on low-income and vulnerable people in the Jewish community. He leads a $12 million initiative to increase accessibility at Jewish camp in partnership with the Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC) and co-authored “Jewish Poverty in the United States: A Summary of Recent Research” as part of a broader initiative to raise the profile of poverty within the Jewish community.

Prior to his role at the Weinberg Foundation, Jon served as a management consultant focused on the education sector for five years, including two years at Tyton Partners in Boston from 2015-2017 and three years at Huron Consulting Group in Chicago from 2012-2015. In these roles, Jon provided consulting services to more than 20 organizations, including foundations, higher education institutions, education technology companies, and private equity firms in the areas of strategy and market development, operating and systems redesign, financial modeling, and performance improvement.

Jon was selected to participate in the 2017-2018 Baltimore Corps Fellowship program, a yearlong program designed to build capacity within Baltimore’s social sector. He also served as an Education Pioneers Analyst Fellow from July 2015-2016, aiming to boost the analytic capacity of leading education organizations. He currently serves as a mentor through Thread, Inc. for a high school student in Baltimore City and previously served in a similar capacity for Minds Matter for a high school senior from Chicago Public Schools.

Jon graduated with high distinction from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2011 and is currently pursuing his Master’s of Science in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University. While at Michigan, Jon served as Chair of the Hillel Governing Board in 2011 and was one of five students selected to participate in the first TAMID fellowship program, which now sends over 200 students at universities across the US to Israel for a transformative experience focused on Israel’s entrepreneurship sector.
