Genration Q Health Foundation Improvement Fellow at The Health Foundation

Mark Hamilton has a diverse work experience spanning various healthcare organizations and academic institutions. Mark currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust since January 2021. Mark is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Plymouth since September 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Generation Q Health Foundation Improvement Fellow at The Health Foundation starting from April 2017.

From 2004 to 2021, Mark held multiple roles at EBPOM, where they served as the Co-Director & Chairman. EBPOM is a not-for-profit collaborative project aimed at promoting evidence-based medicine in perioperative care.

At St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Mark held various positions from 2006 to 2020, including Director of the Quality Improvement Academy, Associate Medical Director for Quality Improvement & Clinical Transformation, and Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Intensive Care Medicine & Anaesthesia. Mark specialized in Vascular and Orthopaedic Anaesthesia and had research interests in surgical outcomes and Quality Improvement.

Mark also worked at Surrey Heartlands ICS as the Executive Clinical Director of the Surrey Heartlands ICS Academy from November 2017 to December 2020. Mark was involved in a devolution agreement with NHSE/I, Surrey County Council, and the 3 Surrey Heartlands CCG.

In addition, Mark served as the Editor in Chief for Perioperative Medicine at BioMed Central from 2011 to 2020. Perioperative Medicine is an open-access journal that focuses on improving surgical outcomes through the application of clinical evidence.

Mark briefly held the position of Medical Director at CSH Surrey from April 2017 to November 2017, where they provided a wide range of adult community health services and children's NHS community services.

Mark's work experience also includes serving as a Secondary Care Doctor & Governing Body Member at Lewisham CCG from March 2016 to April 2017 and as the Clinical Director of Adult Critical Care at St. George's Hospital from May 2014 to April 2016.

Mark Hamilton attended St George's, University of London from 1988 to 1994, where they obtained a MB BS and BSc degree in Medicine. In 2014 to 2015, they pursued the NHS Nye Bevan Award in Executive Leadership at the NHS Leadership Academy. From 2017 to 2019, they completed a Masters in Improvement Leadership with a focus on Quality Improvement at both Hult Ashridge and the Health Foundation. Additionally, Mark holds additional certifications including MB BS, BSc, MRCP, FRCA, FFICM, and MD(Res), although specific details about the institution and dates of obtaining these certifications are not provided.
