The History Project: Documenting LGBTQ Boston
Andrew Elder is an experienced archivist and library professional serving as the University Archivist and Curator of Special Collections at UMass Boston since December 2010. In this role, Andrew leads a team focused on the strategic growth and stewardship of archival collections, community engagement, and compliance with library policies. Andrew has held multiple positions within UMass Boston, including roles as an Interim University Archivist, Co-Instructor, Digital Archives and Outreach Librarian, and Scholarly Communication and Outreach Coordinator. Additionally, Andrew has contributed to The History Project: Documenting LGBTQ Boston as an archivist and board member since 2006, including serving as Chair of the Board. Andrew's prior experience includes positions at Boston Children's Hospital, Wheelock College, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Division of Archives and Records. Andrew holds an M.S. in Library and Information Science/Archives Management from Simmons University and a B.A. in English and Women's Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

The History Project: Documenting LGBTQ Boston
The History Project is an organization that exclusively documents and preserves the history of New England’s LGBTQ communities, and shares that history with LGBTQ individuals, organizations, allies, and the public.The roots of The History Project extend back to 1980, when a group of activists, historians, archivists, and writers was awarded agrant of $300 from the City of Boston to document Boston’s gay and lesbian history in conjunction with the city’s 350th anniversary.The History Project is an all-volunteer group of activists, archivists, historians, writers, and community members dedicated to preserving the history of Boston's and Massachusetts' LGBTQ communities and sharing that information with the public.
