Ruth Nichols

Undergraduate Student Representative, Council of Students Member, Student Vice President at The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Ruth Nichols has a diverse work experience spanning multiple organizations. In 2020, Ruth worked as a Volunteer Research Assistant at the Florida Institute of Technology. During this time, they contributed to various projects in different laboratories, including the Usselman Lab of Quantum Biology, Palmer Lab of Chemical Ecology and Astrobiology, and QML Research Group. Ruth'swork involved conducting research on topics such as electron spin, bioenergetics, cell function, biomaterials, Martian regolith for agriculture, and mathematical models of stock markets.

In 2021, Ruth became a US Space Ambassador for the nonprofit organization Space Is For You. In this role, they focused on researching space technology spinoffs, writing science communication articles, promoting space-related content on social media, and collaborating with international teams on projects.

More recently, in 2022, Ruth joined the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi as the Undergraduate Student Representative and Council of Students Member. As part of the national board of directors, their responsibilities include advocating for student members, enhancing member engagement, and facilitating chapter development and society visibility.

Additionally, in 2022, Ruth gained experience as an Online Science Publishing Intern at McGraw Hill, specifically working on their online science publication called AccessScience.

Throughout their work experience, Ruth has demonstrated a strong interest in space exploration, science communication, academic organizations, and research in various scientific fields.

Ruth Nichols began their education in 2016 at the School of Science and Engineering, where they pursued a degree, although the specific field of study is not mentioned. Ruth completed their studies there in 2019. In 2020, Ruth enrolled at the Florida Institute of Technology and is expected to complete their education in 2023. At the Florida Institute of Technology, they are pursuing a degree in Astrobiology and Applied Mathematics. In 2021, Ruth participated in a study abroad program at the University of Oxford, focusing on World Religions and Scientific and Technical Communication.

In addition to their academic pursuits, Ruth has obtained several certifications. In July 2020, they obtained certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid from the American Red Cross. In July 2022, they earned their Open Water Diver certification from SDI. Ruth also acquired an FAA Class 3 Medical Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration in August 2022.
