Sophie Hanbury has extensive work experience in the media and publishing industry. Sophie began their career at Informa in 1997 as an International Sales Manager, where they managed relationships with international agents and oversaw product launches. Hanbury then joined Getty Images in 2000 as a Project Manager, where they successfully integrated acquired content and increased revenue. Sophie later became the Sales & Business Development Director for Nordic/Benelux regions, overseeing a large team and spearheading marketing and business development activities. Hanbury continued to excel in sales and marketing roles at Digital Vision and Masterfile before returning to Getty Images as Channel Sales Director. Sophie then joined The Telegraph as Licensing and Syndication Director, responsible for content licensing and new business. Hanbury's expertise in licensing and partnerships led to their roles as Non-Executive Board Director at NLA media access, where they provided strategic input and financial decision-making. Sophie ultimately joined The Independent as the Director of Strategic Content Partnerships, where they set monetization strategies and managed syndication and partnerships teams. Throughout their career, Hanbury has demonstrated a strong track record in driving revenue and fostering strategic partnerships in the media industry.

Sophie Hanbury began their education in 1984 at Hertford Regional College (Broxbourne campus) where they pursued 3 'A' Levels in French, Economic History, and English. Sophie then continued their education at Goldsmiths, University of London from 1986 to 1990, where they obtained a BA Hons in French with a specialization in French Language and Literature with a subsidiary in Sociology. During their time at Goldsmiths, they developed proficiency in spoken and written French and gained knowledge in literature ranging from the 16th to 20th century, with a special focus on Albert Camus.

In addition to their formal education, Sophie has also obtained various certifications. These include the 2023 AOP Digital Publishing awards, where they won the accolade for 'Best Diversification of Commercial Strategy' from the AOP Association of Online Publishers. Sophie also completed the Leadership Coaching and Mentoring Development Programme at In Professional Development (InPD) at the same time. In 2021, Sophie won the 'Best Diversification of Commercial Strategy' award again at the AOP Digital Publishing awards. Prior to that, in 2020, they earned a Coaching Skills Certificate from AoEC - The Academy of Executive Coaching and a Certificate of Achievement in GDPR Learning Essentials from Kallidus in 2020.
