William Friar

William Friar is an experienced professional in development and philanthropy, currently serving as a Member of the Board of Trustees at The Institute of Development Professionals in Education since July 2023 and as the Director of Development at Haberdashers' Elstree Schools since January 2021. Previous roles include Director of Philanthropy, Alumni and Community Engagement and Director of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Leicester, as well as Head of Development at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Additional experience encompasses development communications at SOAS University of London and consulting at Stanford University, complemented by a brief career as a rock critic and columnist for the San Francisco Examiner. William Friar holds a B.A. and M.A. in English from Stanford University and an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University.
