Nicholas Howarth

Nicholas Howarth is an experienced energy analyst and policy advisor at the International Energy Agency since March 2021, where responsibilities include leading the production of the Energy Efficiency Market Report. Previously, Nicholas was a Research Fellow at KAPSARC from September 2013 to March 2021, focusing on Saudi Arabia's energy and climate policies. Additionally, Nicholas contributed to renewable energy financing research as a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment and co-led a project on carbon metrics as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Oxford. Teaching experience includes tutoring in environmental economics and climate change across various Oxford colleges. Early career roles encompass economic policy leadership at the National Farmers' Federation and advisory work for the Australian Environment Minister, along with experience as an economist in the Department of Finance. Educational credentials include a D.Phil in Economic Geography, an M.Sc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford, and a B.Ec (Hons) from the University of Adelaide.
