Lauren Markoe

Lauren Markoe is an accomplished journalist with extensive experience in news editing and production. Currently serving as the News Editor at The Forward since April 2021, Markoe oversees a team of reporters and freelancers, focusing on journalism about the Jewish world. Previous roles include Producer for The Kojo Nnamdi Show at WAMU 88.5, where production was led on multiple segments, and Producer at Interfaith Voices. Markoe has also held significant positions at Religion News Service, including Managing Editor and National Correspondent, where coverage ranged from religion to politics. A freelance journalist prior to these roles, Markoe has contributed to prominent media organizations including The Washington Post. Markoe began the journalism career as a Washington Reporter for The State Newspaper and a Government Reporter for The Charlotte Observer. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in History from Yale University and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
