Lead Reverse Engineer at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory

Jared Stroud has a diverse work experience in the field of cybersecurity. Jared has worked as a Lead Reverse Engineer at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory since 2024. Prior to this, they were an Independent Security Researcher at Arch Cloud Labs, where they conducted independent security research and contributed to Offensive Frameworks such as Metasploit and Empire. Jared has also presented their research at industry leading conferences.

Jared has also held positions at MITRE, where they worked as a Lead Security Engineer and was responsible for reverse engineering APT malware samples and contributing to the development of an Linux agent for Adversary Emulation. Jared has also taught as an Adjunct Lecturer at Rochester Institute of Technology, delivering courses on Computing Security and Object Oriented Programming.

Additionally, Jared has worked as a Cloud Security Researcher at Lacework, where they performed AWS incident response for customers and developed Adversary Emulation Playbooks. Jared has also worked at MITRE as a Lead Security Engineer, developing offensive capabilities and autonomous adversary emulation for Windows and Linux platforms.

Prior to their professional career, Jared gained experience as an Application Security Engineer Intern at Intrepidus Group, Inc.

Jared Stroud earned a Master's degree in Computing Security from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2016. Prior to that, they received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Information Systems Security/Information Assurance from the same institution. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained the GIAC Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN) certification in November 2016. Over the years, they have also obtained various certifications in areas such as C/C++ Whitebox Fuzzing, Linux Kernel Debugging and Security, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, and other cybersecurity-related courses from institutions such as FuzzingLabs, The Linux Foundation, Udemy, RiskIQ, and Elastic.
