David Boswell

Senior Director Of Community Architecture at The Linux Foundation

David Boswell has over 20 years of work experience in community management and open source software development. David started their career at Alphanumerica as a New Technology Producer, where they built web-based applications and pursued sales leads. David then worked at CollabNet as a Senior Project Manager, managing the creation of online software development communities for various clients.

From 2004 to 2013, Boswell co-founded and served as a board member of the Mozdev Community Organization, a non-profit organization supporting open-source developers. David directed the organization's operations, set strategic goals, supervised staff, and handled finances and fundraising.

Boswell then joined NASA Ames Research Center as a Consultant, where they created a proposal for an online development community for NASA's open-source software. David identified requirements and delivered a demonstration site and presentation for senior executives.

At Grey Interactive, Boswell worked as a Technical Project Manager, overseeing the creation of websites, emails, and other marketing materials for clients such as Gerber and Liz Claiborne. David managed a team of technical resources and coordinated with external vendors.

Boswell joined Mozilla in 2007 as the Head of Community Building, leading a team that connected volunteers to teams within the organization. David developed systems to recognize volunteers, measured contributions, and created training materials.

At UI LABS, Boswell worked as a Community Consultant, where they created a community strategy for the Digital Manufacturing Commons (DMC) open-source project. David analyzed contribution opportunities, evaluated community health, and helped run a community workshop.

As the Director of Community at the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), Boswell scaled up the ONOS open-source community and launched and grew the community around the CORD project. David developed strategies to align community members with organizational goals through online methods and community events.

Currently, Boswell is the Senior Director of Community Architecture at The Linux Foundation. David provides resources and guidance to community members, analyzes metrics to assess community growth and health, and develops strategies to address concerns. David also doubled the number of Hyperledger meetup groups and increased the number of events and members in the community.

David Boswell attended The University of Texas at Austin from 1992 to 1996, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Latin and History. Later, from 2005 to 2007, they studied at Columbia | SIPA, earning a Master's degree in Environmental Policy Studies. In addition to their formal education, Boswell obtained a certification as a Speaker at the Hyperledger Global Forum Europe 2022, offered by The Linux Foundation, in October 2022.
