Karen Vieira is the owner of The Med Writers, a previous research scientist for Kraft Foods, and a post-doctoral researcher from the University of Florida.
Vieira has always had a passion for researching and discovering new things, which is what led their to pursue a career in science.
Karen started their career as an undergraduate research assistant at Emory University and Florida Institute of Technology before becoming a graduate research assistant at the University of Florida. There, they researched the transcriptional regulation of the human and mouse beta-globin locus with the aim of gene therapy for sickle cell disease.
After finishing their graduate studies, Vieira became a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Florida where they continued their work on transcriptional regulation. Karen also trained a graduate student and technician during this time.
In February 2005, Vieira left academia to join Kraft Foods as a research scientist. There, they were responsible for discovering and researching new and emerging health and wellness ingredients. Karen monitored the relevant patent and peer-reviewed publications and managed contract labs performing cell culture studies.
In September 2007, Vieira left Kraft Foods to start their own company, The Med Writers. The Med Writers is a scientific writing company that provides medical writing services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries.

Karen Vieira has a PhD in Biomedical Science - Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Florida College of Medicine, a MS in Management from the University of Florida - Warrington College of Business, and a BS in Biological Sciences - Molecular Biology from the Florida Institute of Technology. Karen also has a certificate from the Jim Moran Institute Small Business Executive Program from Florida State University. Additionally, they have certification from the U.S. Small Business Administration in SBA 8(a).
