Jay Carter has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of information security. Jay began their career as an Information Systems Security Manager at Casco Northern Bank in 1984. Jay then worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance as a Data Security Specialist from 1990 to 1995, where they designed and implemented RACF security controls and automated administration processes.
In 1995, Carter joined Vanguard Integrity Professionals as a Product Manager and played a vital role in managing the company's flagship product, Vanguard RACF Administrator. Jay also supported pre-sales activities and managed beta programs. Jay worked there until 1996.
From 1996 to 2004, Carter joined AmerisourceBergen Corporation as a Manager of Information Security. During their time there, they reengineered the existing Information Security program, automated mainframe administration, and implemented a paperless workflow process.
In 2004, Carter joined First Marblehead Education Resources as a Vice President of Information Security and CISO. In this role, they implemented an Information Security function, developed policies, and performed IT risk assessments. Jay also defined IT SOX controls based on the COBIT framework.
In 2008, Carter joined Harvard University as the Chief Information Security Officer. Jay created a University Information Security function, implemented a collaborative IT Security Governance structure, and established a Cyber Security Center. Jay also served as the Director of Information Security, where they built a team and developed in-house capabilities for vulnerability assessments and IT risk assessments. Jay'stenure at Harvard University lasted until 2012.
After Harvard University, Carter joined Bottomline Technologies as the Chief Information Security Officer. Jay was responsible for Global Information Security, Internal Audit, and Compliance. Jay developed security awareness education content, an IT Risk Management Program, and a Computer Incident Response process. Jay worked there from 2012 to 2013.
Following Bottomline Technologies, Carter joined Liberty Mutual Insurance Global Specialty as the Director of Information Security and Compliance in 2013. Jay held this role until 2014.
Currently, Carter is working as the Chief Information Security Officer at MEMIC since 2014.
Jay Carter attended the University of Southern Maine starting in 1984. It is not known when they completed their education or if they obtained a degree in Business.
In addition to their education, Jay Carter has received several certifications. In 2003, they obtained the CISSP certification from (ISC)2. In 2012, they obtained the CISA certification from ISACA. Most recently, in March 2021, they obtained the AMCOMP Workers' Compensation Professional Designation from the American Society of Workers' Compensation Professionals (AMCOMP).
