Dr. John Skerry joined the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group Board of Directors in 2019. He is the physician in chief of the Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco medical center and also has served on The Permanente Medical Group's board of directors since 2012. He is currently the chair of the compensation committee of both MAPMG and TPMG. After both college and medical school at Cornell University and residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, John joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1994 and has spent his entire professional career at South San Francisco. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and still sees patients in the Daly City office in addition to his administrative role. Before becoming a physician in chief in 2012, he was chief of the department of ophthalmology from 2005-2011 and was a leader of a successful regional effort to improve the cataract surgery process, increasing both the efficiency and safety of surgery while improving patients’ timely access to surgery. He and his wife, Nicole, live on the Northern California coast side with their three rescue dogs and six rescue cats.
