Susan Thaxton

Susan Thaxton is the current Chief Strategy Officer at The Mission Continues. Prior to their current position, Thaxton served as the Executive Director for Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake from January 2016 to July 2019. Thaxton was recruited to Girls on the Run to help implement a three-year strategic plan that would help the struggling organization get back on its feet. The strategic plan entailed an overhaul of the program operations, fiscal management, partnership development, and fundraising. Thaxton was able to develop the infrastructure and processes needed to facilitate growth while maintaining strong program quality, improving constituent engagement, and ensuring financial sustainability.

Before their time at Girls on the Run, Thaxton was the Chief Executive Officer for Wye Oak Consulting, LLC from August 2014 to May 2016. Wye Oak Consulting is a business planning consulting firm that provides strategy and development work for Not For Profit (NFP) organizations. As the CEO, Thaxton served as a trusted partner for clients to identify opportunities, develop a vision for change, determine priorities, define realistic courses of action, and support implementation to drive growth. Thaxton was known for their out of the box thinking when it came to long standing issues affecting heartfelt organizations. Susan also managed all business aspects and strengthened strategic consulting processes during their time at Wye Oak Consulting. Thaxton's work at Wye Oak Consulting was so impressive that they were recruited by a client to serve as their Executive Director based on my strategic guidance on a three year strategic plan.

Susan Thaxton holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Political Science from Villanova University.

Their manager is Mary Beth Bruggeman, President. They are on a team with La Costa Moore - Chief People Officer, T’liza Kiel - Director, Alumni Engagement, and Keith Thomas - Senior Director, Communications.
