Cheryl Murphy has a strong and diverse work experience. Cheryl started their career as a Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young in 1986. Cheryl then moved on to Dominick's Finer Foods, where they worked as the Vice President - Treasurer for eight years. During this time, they played a crucial role in the company's sale to Safeway. Currently, they serve as the Chief Financial Officer at Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, where they are responsible for various departments including Accounting, Budgeting, and Human Resources. Additionally, they co-lead their Advancement/Fundraising department. Overall, Cheryl has proven expertise in finance, auditing, and leadership.
Cheryl Murphy pursued their education chronologically, starting with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting from Northern Illinois University, which they completed between 1982 and 1986. Afterward, they went on to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. This degree program, specializing in Finance and Organizational Behavior, took place from 1991 to 1996.

Mercy Home for Boys & Girls has helped more than 30,000 neglected, abused, and homeless children over its 130-year history. At the core of our services is our residential program, which provides a safe home, therapy, and educational support to hurting children at our two Chicago campuses. Mercy Home also offers mentoring, AfterCare, and referral services—all in all, helping a total of more than 600 kids and their families each year. Mercy Home has been voted one of Chicago’s Top 100 Workplaces in the Chicago Tribune poll since 2013.
