Christina Kennedy

Global Director, Spatial Conservation Science at The Nature Conservancy

Christina Kennedy has an extensive work experience spanning various organizations and roles. Christina has worked at The Nature Conservancy since 2011, starting as a Senior Scientist in the Development by Design Program where they directed science initiatives to reconcile development and conservation. Christina then became a Senior Conservation Scientist, responsible for managing science initiatives to support TNC's global lands protection strategies. In their most recent role at The Nature Conservancy, they serve as the Global Director of Spatial Conservation Science. Christina'sresponsibilities include collaborating with diverse stakeholders to implement interdisciplinary science, monitoring, and conservation projects worldwide.

Outside of The Nature Conservancy, Kennedy has held positions at the Center for Collaborative Conservation at Colorado State University as an Affiliate Associate and at Colorado State University as an Affiliate Faculty member from 2016 to 2019.

Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy, Kennedy worked as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Washington State University where they co-led interdisciplinary research on the ecological role of wild birds on farms. Christina also held a Postdoctoral Researcher position at Lincoln Park Zoo, conducted field research in Jamaica as a Ph.D. researcher at the University of Maryland, and worked as a Science & Policy Analyst at the Environmental Law Institute.

Kennedy's earlier experience includes roles such as Spatial Analyst at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Graduate Research Assistant at the Marine Lab at Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment, and Ecological Research Assistant at the Zoology Department at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Throughout their career, Kennedy has demonstrated expertise in spatial conservation science, interdisciplinary research, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable working landscapes.

Christina Kennedy holds a Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources Management and Policy from Cornell University. Christina also has a Master of Environmental Management degree in Conservation Biology & Landscape Ecology from Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment. Additionally, Christina holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Behavior, Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics from the University of Maryland.
