Kevin Mercado

Kevin Mercado is a Production Assistant at The New Press. Prior to that, they worked as an Administrative Assistant at Akashic Books from November 2018 to April 2020. There, they were responsible for managing and fulfilling direct sales from the website, overseeing shipping and packing of orders, and fulfilling invoices. Kevin also answered phones, directed calls, and took messages as needed as well as provided general administrative and inventory support. Kevin trained and supervised interns on mailing and administrative tasks and updated the WordPress website, Press Kits, and metadata with timely praise and press clips weekly. Kevin also converted InDesign files into Print-On-Demand hardcovers and web PDFs and created web pages, electronic Press Kits, and tip sheets for all upcoming titles.

Before working at Akashic Books, Kevin Mercado was a Support and Operations Intern at Pronoun from September 2017 to November 2017. There, they performed content reviews for incoming EPUB files and manuscripts from self-published authors using the Django database. Kevin also sent and responded to emails from authors with regards to their manuscripts through Groove. In addition, Kevin evaluated EPUB file content, formatting, and metadata to ensure they were up to company and distributor guidelines. Kevin also reviewed cover art according to company and distributor guidelines ensuring art was up to standards.

Kevin Mercado has a Master of Science in Publishing from Pace University and a Bachelor's degree in English from the University at Albany, SUNY. Kevin also has an Advanced Regents Diploma from South Bronx Preparatory: A College Board School.
