Matt Goodwin has extensive experience in industrial relations, particularly in the maritime industry. Matt is currently the Head of Industrial Relations - Marine at The NRMA, overseeing the organization's fleet of ferry and tourism vessels in Sydney Harbour. Prior to this, they worked as the Employee Relations - ANZ at Sims Metal and as an Inspector at the Transport Workers Union of Australia. Matt also held leadership roles at the Maritime Union of Australia as an Assistant Secretary and at the International Transport Workers' Federation as a Campaign Director - Asia-Pacific. Additionally, they served as a Director at the Workers Health Centre and as the National Coordinator - Safety and Training at the Maritime Union of Australia. Earlier in their career, they worked as the Director of Organising at the Community & Public Sector Union (CPSU - PSU Group) and as an Organiser/Educator at the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). Throughout their career, Matt has developed expertise in various aspects of industrial relations, including collective bargaining, work health and safety, and negotiations.
Matt Goodwin's education history includes the following:
- In 2016, they completed a program called "Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors" at the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
- From 2010 to 2016, they studied Law (LPAB) at the University of Sydney.
- Matt earned a degree in Economics with a specialization in Industrial Relations from the University of Adelaide, between 1993 and 1996.
- Currently, they are pursuing a Certificate in Maritime Operations (General Purpose Hand) at Sea School International.
- Matt is also working towards a First Aid Certificate at Pinnacle Safety and Training, expected to be completed in 2022.
- In 2013, they received a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety from the Australian Trade Union Institute.
- In 2004, they obtained a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the Australian Trade Union Institute.
