After obtaining their bachelor's degree, Hand attended Georgetown University from 2003 to 2004, where they obtained an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Management. Following this, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Philanthropic Studies at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis from 2007 to 2009.
