Sonny Sung Chul Whang

General Counsel, Asia-pacific at The Olayan Group

Sonny Sung Chul Whang is the General Counsel for Asia-Pacific at The Olayan Group, a role held since September 2004, and has extensive legal experience in corporate governance, securities, and M&A transactions. Whang also co-founded the Korean American Community Foundation, serving as its first President until 2006 and currently participating on the President's Council. In the realm of sports, Whang co-founded West Side Taekwondo in New York City, mentoring numerous athletes, including Olympians. Previous legal positions include Partner at Phillips Nizer LLP and Associate roles at Fulbright & Jaworski and Bingham Dana & Gould. Whang holds a J.D. from Cornell Law School, an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University School of Law, and an AB in Asian Studies from Dartmouth College.
