Kevin Lenzo

Founder and Director Emeritus at The Perl Foundation

Kevin Lenzo has an extensive work experience spanning 30 years. Kevin began their career in 1990 as a Student Programmer III at The Ohio State University, Cognitive Science. In 1992, they took on the role of Campus Computer Consultant at NeXT Computer. From 1994 to 1998, they worked as a Researcher at Advanced Telecommunications Research (ATR). Kevin then moved to Lucent Technologies Bell Labs in 1998, where they were a Member of Technical Staff. In 1999, they became a System Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2000, they founded Cepstral LLC, where they were the CEO and Founder. That same year, they also became the Founder and Director Emeritus of The Perl Foundation. From 2007 to 2019, they worked as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Apple. In 2019, they joined Duolingo, where they are currently the Speech Lab Lead and Senior Staff Research Scientist.

Kevin Lenzo attended East Muskingum Middle School before attending CAHS. Kevin then attended The Ohio State University from 1990 to 1996, obtaining a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science. Lenzo continued their education at Carnegie Mellon University, where they obtained an MSc in Robotics in 1999 and a Ph.D in Robotics in 2017.
