Paul McDowell was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS) in 2020.
Before joining QHS, Mr. McDowell served as the Chief Financial Officer for Mission Health in Asheville, North Carolina, a $2 billion, 12,000-employee health system comprised of six hospitals, multiple ambulatory care facilities, an 800+ provider group practice, a $100+ million post-acute provider, and related services.
Prior to Mission Health, Mr. McDowell served as CFO for King’s Daughters Health System in Ashland, Kentucky where he oversaw 12 years of strong financial performance and directed notable cost reduction and revenue growth efforts. He also has served as CFO for two for-profit hospitals within Health Management Associates (HMA) and held various finance positions with what is now Wellstar Health System and Ernst & Young, among others.
Mr. McDowell received his BBA in Accounting from Georgia Southern University and his MBA from Kennesaw State University. He has served on the boards of the United Way of Asheville & Buncombe County (Chair), the United Way of Northeast Kentucky, and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Tri-State. Mr. McDowell has been named one of 150 Hospital and Health System CFOs To Know by Becker’s Hospital Review (2018) and Chief Financial Officer of the Year by Health Management Associates, Inc. (1998).
