Javier Alonso-Mora has a strong background in robotics and autonomous systems. Javier currently holds the position of Associate Professor at Technische Universiteit Delft, where their research focuses on navigation, motion planning, and control of autonomous mobile robots and vehicles, particularly in multi-robot systems and interactions with other robots and humans in dynamic environments. Prior to this, they worked as an Assistant Professor at the same institution, contributing novel methods and solutions in various areas such as motion planning, dynamic vehicle routing, multi-robot coordination, and formation control.
Javier also co-founded The Routing Company (formerly Routable AI) in 2018. Javier has valuable experience as a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and ETH Zürich, where they worked on motion planning and control of multi-robot systems, as well as navigation for ground and aerial mobile robots. Javier collaborated on projects related to automated construction, vision-based localization, and human-robot interaction.
Javier's research work extends to Disney Research, where they were a postdoctoral researcher and doctoral student, applying methods for multi-agent navigation and tech transferring them to Walt Disney Imagineering. Javier also had a brief stint as a visiting researcher at MIT, working on navigation algorithms for collaborative manipulation of deformable objects. In the early stages of their career, they gained research experience as a research intern at Disney Research and Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and as a research assistant at IRI - Institut de Robótica i Informàtica Industrial, CSIC-UPC.
Javier Alonso-Mora's education history begins with their studies at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, where they obtained their Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from 2003 to 2008. Javier then pursued their Master's degree in Industrial Engineering at the same institution from 2003 to 2010. In 2008, they also completed an Erasmus exchange semester in Mathematics at EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne).
In 2008, Javier enrolled at ETH Zürich and obtained their Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Robotics, systems, and control from 2008 to 2010. Javier continued their studies at ETH Zürich and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Robotics and multi-agent optimization from 2010 to 2014.
During their academic journey, Javier also had a visiting research experience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2013, where they focused on Computer Science. There is also mention of another time period at MIT, but no specific years or degrees are provided.
