Mark Hughes

Taxonomy Research Leader (southeast Asia) at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

Mark Hughes is an accomplished botanist with extensive expertise in plant biodiversity in tropical regions. Currently serving as the Taxonomy Research Leader for Southeast Asia and as a Tropical Botanist at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh since 2002, Mark focuses on describing and explaining plant biodiversity. Previously, Mark held the position of Senior Researcher at the Singapore Botanic Gardens from 2007 to 2009. Mark's academic background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Population Genetics from the University of Glasgow, a Master’s Degree in Plant Taxonomy and Biodiversity from The University of Edinburgh, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Botany from the University of Glasgow.
