Alexander Makarov serves as a Fellow of the Royal Society since April 2020 and holds the position of Professor of High Resolution Mass Spectrometry at Utrecht University since October 2013. With extensive experience in the field, Makarov has been the Director of Global Research at Thermo Fisher Scientific since June 2007, following roles as Senior Research Scientist at Thermo Electron from 2002 to 2007 and Research Manager at Thermo Finnigan from 2000 to 2002. Prior to these positions, Makarov contributed as a Research and Development Scientist at HD Technologies Ltd. from 1996 to 2000, a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick from 1994 to 1996, and a Scientific Researcher at the General Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences from 1992 to 1994. Makarov holds a PhD in Physics and Mathematics and a Master of Science with Honors in Molecular Physics from Moscow Physics-Engineering Institute.
