Alyson Sinclair has a diverse work experience in the literary and culture industry. Alyson is the Founder and Owner of The Rumpus, an independent online magazine that aims to provide a platform for risk-taking voices and writing. Alyson previously worked as a Communications Consultant and Freelance Publicist for Nectar Literary. Additionally, Alyson served as the Publicity Director for McSweeney's, managing publicity campaigns for various projects, including books, magazines, and non-profit imprints. Alyson also has experience as a Community Engagement Fellow at Emerging Arts Professionals/SFBA, Marketing and Publicity Manager at City Lights Publishers, and Associate Publicist at Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Alyson began their career as a Creative Writing Program Assistant at the University of Minnesota, where they secured funding for literary journals and organized program-sponsored events.
Alyson Sinclair holds a BA degree in English and Creative Writing from the College of Charleston, which they completed between 1999 and 2003. Later, they pursued an MFA degree in Creative Writing at the University of Minnesota, studying from 2004 to 2007.
