Catherine Agathos

Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute

Catherine Agathos is a highly experienced researcher with expertise in postural control, multisensory integration, aging, and vision. Currently serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute since January 2021, Catherine previously worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Institut de la Vision, Sorbonne Université from April 2017 to December 2020, and as a PhD student at Université Paris-Saclay from December 2012 to October 2016. In addition, Catherine held positions as a Research Scientist at Essilor, a Research Assistant at Imperial College London, Secretary for IAESTE London LC, and a trainee at both Altera doo and Imperial College London. Catherine obtained a Ph.D. in Human Movement & Sports Science from Université Paris-Saclay and a Master of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from Imperial College London.

The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute

The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, a nonprofit independent research institute, is located in Pacific Heights in San Francisco. Dedicated to research on human vision, it was founded to encourage a productive collaboration between the medical clinic and the scientific laboratory. Smith-Kettlewell conducts research on many different topics, but its main interests are: * Clinical studies which relate directly to the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and disorders. * The development of devices and vocational programs to aid the partially sighted, blind and hearing impaired - the major focus of the Rehabilitation Engineering and Research Center (RERC). * Basic research to understand how the eye and brain work, providing a fundamental background for both the clinical and rehabilitation programs.
