Carter Strickland is a seasoned professional in sustainability and climate action, currently serving as the Chief Sustainability Officer and Executive Director of Climate Action at The State University of New York since May 2023. In addition, Strickland co-leads the Critical Infrastructure Working Group for the New York Panel on Climate Change's 5th Assessment, starting January 2025. With a robust academic involvement, Strickland has been an Adjunct Professor in Environmental Infrastructure at The Earth Institute, Columbia University since 2016 and previously at NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service from 2019 to 2021. Past roles include Vice President at The Trust for Public Land, Advisor on Organics Circularity for Closed Loop Partners, and key positions at HDR, the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, and the NYC Mayor's Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability. Strickland holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Columbia Law School and an A.B. in History from Dartmouth College.
